Darren was born in Sunderland and went to Castleview Comprehensive School.

Before joining the Army Darren worked in a Bakery and on a scheme decorating Old Age Pensioners houses.

He died tragically after falling from a balcony whilst serving with his unit in Limmasol Cyprus.
