David was a Navigator with 236 Squadron flying Beaufighters.

His service took him on missions over Western Europe in 1944 and 1945.

He served in the RAF from 1942 to 1945.

David was born in Ryhope in Sunderland on the 16th March 1922. He was the brother of Irving James Clarke Jnr (Jimmy) and the son of Irving James Clarke Snr. ( please see their entries). David was educated at Ryhope Grammar school and prior to WW2 he worked as a Dental Mechanic likely along the father and son both called Irving James Clarke.

After the war he moved to Gloucester and became a shipping manager for Fielding and Platt Engineering.
