David was born in Sunderland in September 1959.

He was serving on H.M.S. Ashanti in the Bristol Channel when it suffered a serious engine room fire which saw the fatalities David and 2 other men.

H.M.S. Ashanti was a Tribal class of Frigate and was launched in 1961. the link below tells more of the story of the ship.
