Ernie joined the army and served in Egypt during WW2. Although we could not verify his medal entitlement he is likely to have been awarded the 1939 - 45 War Medal and the Victory medal. We are awaiting confirmation of his entitlement and will be updating this information in the near future.

Ernie was born in Sunderland in 1922. He joined the army and attained the rank of Sgt Major.
In 1939 Ernie is recorded as living with family members at 3 Henry Street East and working as a Vulcaniser in the tyre industry a trade he continued after his discharge from the army. He was working as a branch manager for National Tyres at the time of his death.
