After leaving the the services in 1946 he married Rachel Pugh (see entry) who had served with the RAF.

They lived in Sunderland and built there own house in South Bents in 1953. They had one daughter Clair born in 1960.

He worked as a Master Cabinet Maker in Sunderland Shipyards and then he became self employed as a carpenter.
