William was born in Plessey, Northumberland on the 27th may 1895.

In the 1911 Census he is recorded at the age of 15 as living with his 4 siblings and his parents .

The census puts his occupation as a Quarry Apprentice the same as his elder brother Edward Henry. (see entry).

William was awarded the British War Medal, The Victory Medal and the 1915 Star .

After the war William became a Quarry Manager and then a Hospital Engineer prior to retiring.

He was married with children
